Beginner plus

Spring's Coming: Introducing "Beginner PLUS"

Hey skaters, as spring rolls in, we're launching a new session called "Beginner PLUS." It's designed for those who've been consistently progressing in our beginner classes and are ready to take the next step.

Basically, it's for skaters who've got the basics down and want to learn more advanced tricks. We'll have a list of required tricks from the beginner classes that you'll need to know before joining. This helps keep the lessons flowing smoothly.

Our instructors will let you know when they think you're ready for the PLUS session. If you're unsure about your current skill level, just ask them.

Beginner PLUS will be on Saturdays at 11 AM, weather permitting. We're limited to 5 students for now due to permit restrictions, but we'll look into expanding if there's enough demand.

Here's the class schedule:

  • Beginner: Saturday & Sunday, 10 AM
  • Beginner PLUS: Saturday, 11 AM
  • Intermediate: Sunday, 11 AM

Check the website for updates.

Changes to the lesson structure

Hey everyone,

You know me as Coach Dell. I'm writing to inform you of some changes to my lessons.

Following an incident in December involving myself and a member of Continental Landscapes, Richmond Council has reviewed my agreement for using the parks.

To update the agreement, they've requested a reduction in the number of students per lesson. I have two options: run smaller groups or pay for a park permit. Additionally, my advertising posters have been removed due to Article 21 – Advertising in parks and open spaces.

Unfortunately, obtaining a permit comes with a significant cost that I'm currently exploring.

For the time being, all open group lessons and private bookings within Kingsfield skatepark will have a maximum of 5 students.

I'm actively working on securing the most suitable permit to allow for larger groups in my most popular sessions while keeping others within the permitted limits.

I understand this may cause some inconvenience, and I appreciate your understanding.

Thank you,

If you have concerns about the park or the actions of any members of staff there, please report them to parks@richmond.gov.uk

Credit codes will be used for rescheduled lessons

We are changing the way we make reminders of cancelled lessons. We normally run a priority system if the lesson is cancelled, but if you need to skip a weekend and have already paid you will be given a credit for that purchase to use for a future lesson on our website.

Please get in touch if you were already assigned a lesson during Winter but have skipped the date due to the weather but not been issued a promotion code or a rescheduled lesson.

As an adult returning to Skateboarding I wanted some lessons to help build confidence. Dell was patient and had a lot of great advice to get me started again. Will definately be booking more lessons as I learnt so much, and also enjoyed every minute.

Dell’s an amazing instructor, I’ve had a couple of lessons with him so far and I’ve learnt so much every time. I’m an adult learning so it’s not just for kids! Dell is really great at breaking everything down to learn and helping you improve with every try. Being able to learn at such a great park is also a bonus. Highly recommend!

The whole two days were brilliantly run - the children learnt a lot and had a great time.

Dell has been teaching my 6 year old son to skateboard for a few months. He is excellent with my son. My son had never held a skateboard before and is now able to skateboard by himself 4 months later. Dell is incredibly patient, and gets him to focus and push himself while having fun, and his improvement is remarkable. Best of all, he loves his lessons with Dell and is completely heartbroken if it’s ever too wet or icy to skateboard!

Please read our frequently asked questions before emailing us.

Our weekend availability can be found on our website here

We currently run a priority follow up system. This means if you are a current student with a lesson booked for example on Saturday at 10am, once your lesson is complete you can book the following Saturday at 10am before the slot becomes available for the public.

If you do not request a follow up lesson for the same time slot by the end of the day your lesson was ran, it will then be placed on our website on the next Monday.

We understand this means there is less availability for new lessons. We are looking to move into group lessons to accommodate the increased interest.

We run lessons within Kingsfield skatepark, please read our skatepark page to find out all information on times, ages, parking, rules and the membership card for the skatepark.

We currently run the following style of lesson

*Please note to book a private one to one or group lesson for a weekend. Make sure the slot is free and pick the right amount of students on the drop down menu when booking that slot – Found here

We are soon to run beginner group lessons (starts May 12th).

We run lessons for ages 5 and up.

Skateboarding is an activate sport with risks of falling, you want to wear some older clothes and flat soled trainers.

Please bring a bottle of drink with you to the park.

We lend out all equipment for the skatepark, please let us know in advance if you need anything.

Skateboard, helmet, elbow, knees and wrist guards.

We will begin to trial beginner group lessons on May 12th. If this goes well, we will then adapt other time slots for additional lessons.

Our first group lesson will be for ages 5 to 10.

Please read our (in progress) group lesson page for more information.

Depending on the condition we have different cancellation rules.

Weather related:

If the weather impacts the lesson we will try postpone your lesson if we have availability after your slot, or reschedule you to another date.

If you are in a lesson and it rains, depending on how much of a lesson that has been completed you may have a discount towards another lesson. If enough of the lesson has been completed, this unfortunately means no rescheduled/discount.

More information can be found on our terms page

If you are refused entry to the skatepark for lack of a membership card, we do not refund or reschedule in this circumstance. We have all the information of how to get your card on our skatepark page. You can purchase a card at the gate, but this delay to the start of your lesson is not reimbursed.

Late arrival to lessons:

We run our weekend lessons on a time schedule as we have a lot of demand. If you’re late to a lesson, we cannot extend your lesson to make up for lost time. If the instructor is late, we will then extend to cover your full hour. This includes a quick break if the instructor has requested it.

Please leave earlier than what Google Maps suggests, as the area around the skatepark can become busy with traffic and parking is limited.

No show:

We have a 48 hour cancellation period for our lessons. This gives us enough time to fill in that slot with someone else.

If we are not given a heads up for cancellation, your lesson will be charged at the full rate. We do apologies in advance if this happens to you.

On rare occasions lessons will be cancelled from our side. We will give you a heads up notice, this may be due to an injury or the instructor being unwell.

We currently have one instructor running lessons within Kingsfield skatepark. We have supporting instructors for our school events.

You will find Coach Dell being the instructor for your lesson.

We do sell a host of skateboard related equipment. Please ask our instructor what we have on offer.

You can also find online skateshops such as Routeone, Rollersnakes, Skatehut.

Or the local skateshop Natter Jacks in Kingsfield.

We have helped students ride long boards and surfskates.

We currently only have one surfskate board that we can lend out. You will need to share with the instructor for your lesson.

We do not have any longboards to lend out at this stage.

We have one person responding to emails, we appreciate if you spend the time finding the information on our website before emailing us the  questions above.

Our Weekend slots will reset every Monday.  Some slots will not reset due to rescheduling.

There is only 1 booking per time slot available for the private lessons.
